Slow Metamorphosis

No painting got done. I started putting the tape up so I would splatter paint all over the ceiling and got one wall done before exhaustion washed over me and I climbed into bed. I hate being sick. Anywho…my bookclub is going to be reading “The Dew Breaker” by Edwige Danticat! I am excited about that because I have been meaning to read her work for awhile now. I hear good things about it so I’m ready. I just finished reading “The Secret Life of Bees” and I fell in love with those characters instantly and even after the book was finished I found myself wondering ok….I want to know what will become of them. I liked the historical references in the book and a part of me wished she would have built on that a little bit more. Right now I am reading “Me Talk Pretty One Day” By David Sedaris. He is funny! The book has me cracking up on the train. I actually think he is a comedian so that explains a lot. After that I will get to the reading for the bookclub meeting which I cant WAIT to do! YAY! EDWIGE!
This weekend….work work and some more work. We are under deadline so there is a lot going on. Work is piled up high and I just have to knock a couple of things out and then I am good to go.
On a side note – this week I saw Keenyah from ANTM and I also saw YAYA at the movie theatre. You know I love that show by the way and they were pretty girls but regular. They seemed alright – I didn’t speak to either one of them. Keenyah was on the phone yapping away and Yaya was going to see a movie. Its so weird I see so many people by my job I’m going to have to start keeping track.

Last weekend L and I went to a wedding – and I got the bug…the FEVAH. I want to get married…lol I don’t know what is wrong with me. So for the past 2 weeks that’s all we have been talking about. Me and my ring, been giving him ideas of what I want and don’t want. No marquis cut and I want a nice size rock but if he can’t afford it then we can just do a simple band…..Am I being materialistic? I don’t even care how about that. Lol.

Anyway I’m sick of talking about this marriage thing sooo moving right along. I did nothing this whole weekend but veg in the bed and now Im getting sick. My mom and my sister are sick and now I’m getting it. And please believe I did everything to avoid them to avoid getting sick because my immune system is non-existent. I get sick for nothing at all but the wind blows the wrong way. So now Im sick and miserable and my room has NOT been painted YET and I’m getting frustrated looking at the mess. Im going to put the tape up today and do one wall. Lol. Is that nuts? It probably is….maybe I wont.

Here ends my first week as a manager.
For the most part it’s just a lot of remembering to do a million little things. I have people calling me begging for deadline extensions, Working out schedules with my managees? Its that a word? The people I manage. Lol. The only problem is this book that I am still working on from my last position. Im trying to close it out so I am going back and forth with the Production Department and making sure that all the changes are done. I want to get it to the printer before the deadline soooo I will be working on that this weekend. Then I am calling people, threatening to pull their listings if they don’t send us money….hmmm I don’t like that part at all. I sure do love getting voicemail…makes me feel not as bad. All in all things are doing well…..I just know not to get my feelings involved because its my job but I want to kick ass up in here. It just seems unreal to me….And I have been getting some commentary the past few days from people. Like yesterday someone said... “Damn Nikay, I remember when you were the receptionist here and now you’re a manager” and the other day the CFO said to me “You know Nikay – you’re soon going to be my boss” I laughed but in the back of my head I’m thinking – that may not be tooo bad after all. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I am hoping to do some serious blog catching up I am so out of the loop…… SO what are you guys planning for the weekend?

I dont know if I told you. I was in a photo shoot for my job, this was me after I came out of makeup.

I am back from Vegas and back in the office. My new position begins tomorrow and while I am excited I am nervous and a little scared. I will be managing 4 people, and I was just told today that I would also be managing the person who comes into my new position. In addition to that I am still doing my current duties for the books I now manage and my new role so the next 2 weeks or so are gonna be HECTIC to say the least. I am ready for it though. On the plane ride back from Vegas I sat myself down and told myself I can SO do this! That my fear is holding me back and I was not made in the spirit of fear so what’s my problem. Lol. I’m just going to throw myself and just be all over this position and master it, then I know that after I have done that things will be easier….so its time to ROCK!

Our new dog…..his name is Mac. So we have Don-the yorkie and Mac- the pit-bull, Labrador mix and he is darling. I have some pics to share but I have been saying that for a minute now…I have to download them to my computer and I haven’t gotten around to that just yet. But yesterday my sister and I went and got food and all that for him and this morning my father accidentally HIT him…yes folks hit him with the car. He looked up when I called him but he wouldn’t come out of his dog house for nothing and I think he is laying on the bad leg. So sometime today we have to take him to the vet. I am so sick over this it doesn’t make any sense. I keep thinking about him at home and all that and I want to leave work to take him to the vet myself but can’t do that. I will keep you guys in the loop.

I'm in Vegas and I feel like a damn tourist..lol. I am as was lovingly refered to as a Vegas Virgin and so I am just taking it all in. Needless to say my time clock is all off. There is a 3 hour difference between here and NY and a sista is jacked up. My flight got in at 1 pm and I got my luggage and waited on the LONGEST taxi line known to man. No really it was like waiting for a ride at Great Adventures or something...roped off and the whole 9. Finally after about 30-40 minutes we got to the hotel and checked in. My boss and I went out for dinner and then headed to the convention center to help set out booth up. Then we had to go to a seminar on how to Maximize your potential. It was cool...but the seminar began at 6 and ended at 8 - read NY time 9-11. So I was so tired by the time that thing was done. And I know this is silly but I kept thinking. I am missing the new season of Americas Next Top Model...sigh. lol. was it good? did anyone see it? I went to bed at 9:30 here...12:30 at home and woke up at 2 am and then again at 4 and I have been up ever since. I figured I might as well take advantage of the time difference and call my cell phone company and my phone company to take care of some things since I cant seem to get them when Im home. Now its a little after 7 am and im feeling like its 10 am....I think im gonna head back to take a lil nap until 8....toodles

I stayed at work last night till 7 and when I got on the A train---happy that I was heading home to do some laundry and get ready for my trip…don’t you know the damn train wasn’t running. Needless to say I was annoyed but even more annoyed when this guy sat next to me and he smelled like stank ass on a hot summer day. I was so disgusted and my face sure as hell did show it. UGH!

Needless to say when I finally made it home, I was so tired. I said to myself I am going to lay down and just rest and then get up and do laundry and all that….I woke up at 3 this morning. *sigh* This week has been nothing short of stressful and today is the last day I have to get my stuff together for this trip to Vegas so I better get on my grind. I’ll holla at you guys later.

I have been M.I.A for a little bit but honestly there is a lot going on for me. But I just wanted to check in and say I’m alive. A little stressed but alive. For those who have asked we got word on my mother – it is NOT cancer. Hallelujah! I am grateful for that. Thanks again for your support and checking in with me and asking, it really meant a lot to me.

Right now I am prepping for my trip to Vegas. No fun really, I am going for work. But HEY I figure I can take advantage of the trip nevertheless. Better believe I will take pictures. I am going to try and hit up some of the theme hotels and see what the big hooplah is about. I may even gamble a lil bit. With any luck I will win something. Lol.

This weekend was cool. I am trying to redo my room, so I have been spending time picking out colors and all that. It was so hard to commit to a color but I think I finally have one that I can live with for the entrance area. So I think painting will get under way soon. As for the room, I have been taking things off the wall and I totally cleaned out my closet which is an awesome feat for me. I have about 3 large Tupperware containers full of clothes that I am GIVING away. How that happened I dunno. I decided to go with warm colors. I have a thing about my room being the most comfortable place on earth and I want it warm and inviting. So im going with the whole red orangey browny tanny colors if that makes any sense whatsoever. I will take pictures as this moves along. Lol.

This weekend was cool. Saturday I went to church in the BX because my cousin was coming in from VA to have her baby blessed. It was nice of course my family rolls deep and my cousin had practically her whole wedding party up front and center. She had about 13 bridesmaids…so you do the math. It was nice we swarmed the front of the church and just made a spectacle. Lol. Then when I got home my other cousin gave her baby to my sister to take care of….so you know that means I ended up with him. He is so teeny… 5 weeks old and a preemie… I really felt like he should have been with his mom but I gladly took him and treated him like my own but then that led to me telling L “ I want a baby”. Lol. In any case I was glad to give him back to his mama that night and not wake up for any late night feedings. Lol. Sunday, I came into work for a bit and then met up with Panhandler and headed over to our book club meeting. God’s Child chose the place and it would have been ok, except for the rude attendees and customers bring in pets into the place. It was a bit much so we bounced and went back to my favorite Thai place. YUM YUM YUM!!

So all in all my weekend was cool…oh yeah my brother and cousin got a dog. So now we have 2!!!!! This is craziness, its becoming animal planet in my damn house. But this dog is adorable he is mixed, I think he is either a pit or rottweiller mixed with a German Shepard and I can already tell he is going to be HUGE! And our little yorkie Don was hopping ALL over him licking him and playing nice so hopefully they will get along. The new dogs name is unofficially MAC. I named him after my favorite brand of makeup. Lol. Anywho that’s the goings on and I will add pics tonight when I get in….

Yeah I have been missing for awhile.
I apologize things (God's Child), things have been hectic for me this past week.
Where do I start....um

I decided to redo my room so I have spent the better part of the week trying to organize everything and figuring out what the hell I am doing. I am ready for something different. I decided to start with one side of the room and work my way around. Right now....my room is a straight up disaster. I attempted to go into the closet and just get that in order which is my BIGGEST job because no lie my closet is the WORST. I have so much clothes in there its a wonder it doesnt explode...lol but right now its not looking too bad. The only bad things is all the clothes I need to get rid of...I am going to donate them so I plan on packing it all up into my car and then taking it somwhere.

Work has been interesting to say the least. This week I was told that the manager for my old department is leaving...and in the next breath I was offered her position. So I was totally floored becuase I just got a promotion what almost 2 months ago? So this was a shocker to me. I decided that I would put myself in the running, so I accepted it marginally based on my salary requirements and increased vacation time and all that. So now Tuesday when I go back to work I have a meeting with the Publisher and the Operations Manager and I guess we shall see where it goes. IF I get it, you guys will be the first to know. It's interesting because as the news spreads random folk have been coming up to me saying you should take it and all that. It does an ego good I tell ya. lol. The funniest part is...Moe (the slacker) go back into the archives for that one...he actually said he wanted to go in and ask to be considered for the position too. So maybe thats why they are making me interview.....hmmmm. whatever. lol.
