Strike! Strike! Strike!

Wednesday, December 21, 2005

LOL Thanks L for the Title!

The Transit Strike is in full effect!!! Today is the second day and on Monday night when I was watching the news to see if it was going to happen, I kept telling myself there is NO way that its going to happen. I couldn’t fathom the possibility…and here we are in the thick of it. Its cold outside – thank God it isn’t raining or snowing because that would be a whole other bag but the weather is not ideal to be walking all over the city. Yesterday I stayed home, I was watching the news and all the chaos and I had brought work home with me just in case so I did that. In the morning though I drove my mom to work, she works on Flatbush Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn and the drive normally takes about 30 minutes it took 2 hours yesterday. Traffic was ridiculous! Going back though it was a breeze I got home in 30 minutes without any problems but the traffic going towards the city was bumper to bumper. Today I took the LIRR at Jamaica Station because the Saint Albans station didn’t have trains ( at least I didn’t think so from what I read on the website ) and then I took the Path train on 33rd street to Christopher street and walked from there to Canal. It wasn’t that bad…..I mean I was prepared for it to be worse but I guess being young helps I saw some older folks and Prego women who looked like they were NOT going to make it. Friday and Monday I am off from work but you know I have to come in anyway right? We have a deadline we have to meet and so I will have to come in at least on Monday if not on Friday. I am thinking about driving up to Woodbury Commons to get my brothers birthday present so that has to be done. The one thing that took me by surprise that in situations with a lot of people I have to constantly remind myself to breath and take it easy, I get like a wave of anxiety in stressful situations in my mind I feel like something bad is going to happen. On the LIRR coming in, I had a seat y the window and the train was going slowly at first and with all the people I started to get claustrophobic and panicky…ewwww what’s that about. I just put my I .pod on and let Jilly from Philly calm me down…..breath breath. I don’t know how much longer this whole thing is going to last but for real though….they need to hurry this thing up cuz err um…. People can’t be paying all these extra fares… I have to now pay $11.00 round trip and some people have to take cabs that run them about $30 bucks a day not to mention I have a monthly unlimited metro card that is collecting dust because I can’t use it. I’m not feeling that at all…but I guess it’s all a waiting game….

I'm BACK

Thursday, December 15, 2005

I am back from the bahamas and so mad about it. I left and the weather was in the low 80's to come back to 19 degree chill...it just aint right. I had a good time, K and I tried to do as much as we could but I think both of our major goals was getting a tan. lol. Things about the Bahamas -- um they eat a WHOLE LOT OF CONCHS! I mean it really doesnt make any sense how they eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner. And I know I have heard of conchs before but this is where it comes from....

It looks like a giant slug and in my mind thats exactly what it is. I tried it even though I know its a bottom feeder and all that but inside of the crisp fried covering it was chewy inside ....me no likey. Also in addition to being conch ruled - bahamians apparently love them some fried foods...everything is fried. Its almost scary. lol. What else?... um the weather was gorgeous and I wanna go back lol. and yes....K and I are still friends....even though she did get mad at me once cuz I had a bahama mama that totally knocked me on my ass and she wanted to go out but couldnt wake me...but like the trooper she is she went and had a good time by herself in the hotel lounge. Soooorrrry K!. I came back last night and proceeded to go to the mall...my christmas party was today and I had nothing to wear, or so I thought I ended up not buying anything at all and just found something in my closet and called it a day, I wasnt in the mood to spend hours at the mall. Needless to say the party was great...they had good food and good music and we were jamming. The closed down the Heartland Brewery in Times Square for us and we tore it up! We really had a great time. I will post some pics!

And the Christmas Party

And my favorite picture of all lol!

And to answer GC - I did put the product name its on my hair blog - its called Miss Jessies Curly Pudding and its sold by curve-salon.com, you should check their page out the pics are amazing!

Baby makes 3 and nightlife in AC

Sunday, December 11, 2005

Yesterday L's cousin had a baby shower in Laurel, MD so I went along with some of his aunts, and uncle and his dad. L had to work and he got out about 12:45 or so and I went to his house and met up with him there and we hit the road. It took us a little under 3 hours to get there which was cool and the ride was nice. We jammed to music and yukked it up and laughed the whole way there - we always have a good time when we are together. His family was already there when we got there and we joined them. They were opening gifts and I was introduced to some of the family that I didn't already know and they were nice. His cousin J (the one having the baby) had a head of beautiful natural hair it was gorgeous --- ok I was hating but I did compliment her on it. After the shower his family decided to stop in Atlantic City so we all drove down to AC and we ate and then hit the machines. Because I am going to the bahamas I wasnt trying to trick out all my money so I only played $20 and lost that QUICKLY! like in 5 minutes if that much lol. Oh well what can you do. All in all it was a good night I was EXHAUSTED by the time I got home but I had a good
time.

As a crossover from my hair blog I did try a new product on my hair and I loved it....had to share a top of the head shot. :-)

TGIF

Friday, December 09, 2005

Its FRIDAY! Thank GOD!

I have a list of things to do before I leave work today and LO and BEHOLD - they are almost done. Even with the countless distractions and issues with production but I am so happy. I didnt drive to the train station like I normally do because on Monday when it snowed last I hit a skid and it took alot for the car to get straight again and to be honest that kinda freaked me out. So I left the car and took public transpo - I left my house early this morning and actually made it to work on time. YAY. lol. Um Come Monday morning folks - Im out this BITCH! I will be leaving on a jet plane and even though its only 2 days -- I dont care! I checked the weather website and it said that it would be in the 80's so thats all I need to hear. I just hope it doesnt rain but even still I will take it over snow any day. Let me hustle back to work. So much to do so little time!

Anyway --- lots to do today, have to get a book out to print today and we are some production issues. Then to top it off we had to let go someone from my team. HE was new but really though he was on some stuff and now my manager is looking over his book to get it ready for print and there are HUGE HUGE Glaring errors and problems that now need to get fixed…..SIGH. I’m glad he is gone and glad that we found all this out before the book went to print….GLAD!

Monday Blues

Monday, December 05, 2005

I am feeling out of sorts today and I don’t know why. Well maybe I do know.
I feel like the weekend was almost a bust I didn’t really do anything productive at all. I have this idea for a book/short story that I want to write but it’s stuck in my head and won’t quite translate to the page. I am working on that… I did no painting to my accent wall which needs to get done SOON – it should have been done already, but um its still not done. Yesterday God’s Child called me (which to be totally honest was a very pleasant surprise cuz I find her to be an interesting person) to tell me about the small press book fair that was going on and OHH how I wanted to go. I got up and started to prance around and then I looked outside and realized it had snowed and then my sails got deflated. I also started to get my hair braided yesterday but that didn’t quite pan out either….and today my fro is looking hurt. Sigh. Today is just not a feel good day for me at all. I was going to stay and work late but no can do. I’m going to leave at 5 maybe 5:30 the latest and get my room in order and at least start finding some summer clothes to pack for this trip next week. It’s supposed to snow today or sometime this week and so now I’m really really looking forward to going to the Bahamas next week – not to mention I’m getting sick so some hours in the sun are going to make me feel better.
I posted some pictures to my hair blog just to get a track of my hair journey and while my fro looks hurt today, when I look at those pictures it makes me feel like YAY I am well on my journey. Places that were thin in the beginning aren’t so thin anymore and I can see the changes. I think I am going to go 125th and see if I can haggle the price of some corn rows for my trip. LOL, no shame I know. Oh well.

Farewells and Celebrations

Saturday, December 03, 2005

Another co-worker leaving the job to go work at M.O.M.A. After work on friday, we went to a happy hour to say our farewells and to celebrate my first Quarterly to print - and on time to boot. And even though I was supposed to be sabbathing, I went to give my love and since it was partially my party I had to show face. I stayed and talked to a few folks and then took my behind home. It was cool. I have some pics to share so I am going to share.

This is rob - the guy thats leaving

Girl Fight

Friday, December 02, 2005

The craziest things happen on the train and this morning was no exception. On the A train 2 girls started fighting…on the train in the cars…I mean all out scrapping like they were men. A woman was hollering for them to stop. And then another woman yells (out of frustration) “Every morning my people wake up and do something to embarrass themselves”. I had to agree and from the looks of it most of the people on the train were nodding in agreement. It could have ended there but of course it didn’t. One of the girls got up and starts to holler at the top of her lungs that she can’t find her wallet and she knows someone on the train has it and if they don’t give her her wallet she is going to pull the emergency brakes and we are going to be late for work. Ok WHY??? Sounds of collective moans go up and she continues to rant until the train pulls into the Jay Street station. Apparently the girl she had been fighting with had the wallet and was getting off at Jay street, when she did she chucked the wallet unto the F train tracks on the other side of the platform. The other girl jumps down onto the subway tracks to retrieve the wallet. From what I could see, she was pacing back and forth on the tracks and she looked like she was trying to hoist herself up but couldn’t do it. At that point the A train pulled out of the station. I don’t know what happened to the girl on the platform.
